Anyway. This is going to be the first PROPER update of my blog. Wowee. Basically, I'm going to bring you up to date in what has been happening in the world of me since June of last year, when my column ended in the Daily Record.
First off, in June, I finished high school. That was the greatest feeling in the world. Don't get me wrong, I did like school. If it weren't for school, I'd never have met half of my fab friends or learned so much useless information (what use is Physics really?). My prom was fabulous, I'll put some photos in the gallery soon. It was a really nice way to say goodbye to school. And a great excuse to get dressed up and wear fabulous shoes. As we all know, I'm all about the shoes.
Once I'd finished school, I got a job in the mighty Bear Factory. It was... an experience, to say the least. You haven't lived until you've spent all day on your feet, grinning like a lunatic, dishing balloons out to children and talking to teddy bears. I know I'm not entirely normal in the head department, but even I can't behave like a child all day. Weird thing was, the day I was in my best mood at work was when I went in with a monster hangover, having been out until half past four in the morning. I was talking to the kids and the bears no problem.
Well, at leat I can write on my CV now, "Can stuff bears." Because that's essential in many a profession.
In July, all my dreams finally came true, and I met McFly! To say I'm a little obsessed with the guitar-playing boyband is a bit of an understatement. It was a really great day. They're all such lovely boys, and even better looking in real life. I turned into a complete gibbering wreck, and talking to Harry about my dragon Puff for about ten minutes. I'm an embarrassment to myself, I really am.
In August, I had to leave the Bear Factory. What a shame, never mind. I'd started to get really unwell, and was having to phone in sick all the time. So I left, to spend the remainder of my summer in bed.
In the middle of the month, just as the schools were going back, I ended up in hospital. I spent most of sixth year taking days of school - I knew I was unwell, but no one seemed to want to listen. First, the doctors thought I had appendicitis (gosh, my inability to spell is really coming out now, isn't it? I should really use spell-check), but it turns out that I have Crohn's disease. That's an inflammatory bowel disease, and pretty unpleasant. I'd been suffering from really bad stomach pains, sickness and so on for months and Mummy finally decided that enough was enough and carted me down to casualty. They kept me in hospital for a week before coming to a diagnosis, and sent me home with a mountain of different pills to make me feel a little better.
I recently wrote about my “battle with Crohn's” (ahem), in my old home, the Daily Record, and if you're really that interested, you can read about it here and here. Exciting stuff, let me tell you.
It's been pretty tough coming to terms with it, but I'm doing well now. I've accepted that this is just the way it's going to be, and I'm going to have to live with it. How very mature of me indeed.
Not much else has happened really. In September I started at the University of Glasgow, studying French with Film and TV Studies. Because of my illness though, I didn't really settle in. I couldn't enjoy the whole student thing properly, and I was missing a lot classes, so come November, I had to drop out. Days after leaving uni, I discovered I'd got one of the top marks in the year for the film module, which was pretty gutting, let me tell you. I may have been the airhead at the back of the room who liked Hugh Grant films, but boy am I good at analysing things!
December saw another hospital visit, when I suffered a pretty horrendous Crohn's flare up. I was pumped full of morphine and allowed to sleep all day. I really don't like being in hospital, but at least it gave my poor family a break from my moaning, and let the nurses of Monklands Hospital endure it instead!
Christmas and New Year came and went in a blur of new boots, playing with my little cousins' new toys and taking many painkillers, and before we knew it, it was the middle of January, and I got to meet one of my new favourite bands, Son of Dork when they did a signing in Glasgow! No photos though, as their security men were horrible. But there's always next time. Lovely boys. And James Bourne really is too cute for words!
And now it's February. I'm finally feeling a little more human, as my drugs are starting to work (woo!), so I've been enjoying nights out with the girls at the pub, and shopping trips as well. I'm now waiting to go back into hospital for an operation, to remove a bit of my small bowel (horrible, horrible word) and hopefully be symptom-free for a while. In the meantime, I'm re-applying for university, hoping to do Journalism this time, reading a lot of rubbish girlie books, watching a lot of rubbish daytime TV, doing a lot of cross-stitch for some odd reason and starting work on my “first bestseller” as I like to call it.
So that's pretty much it. Nine months summed up in a mere 912 words. What a girl.
I can't wait to start blogging properly again, and I hope you enjoy the show!
