As I've probably said before, this summer I'm taking part in the Camp America programme. Yesterday, I got confirmation of a placement.

So in June, I'm going to be leaving on a jet plane for New York to be an arts and crafts counsellor at a performing arts camp! I'll be living up-state, in the mountains, surrounded by little Britney wannabes, dealing with tantrums, mopping up tears of rejection, enriching campers' lives with a little bit of Airdrie banter and, quite frankly, having a summer to remember.

It's going to be like being in Fame! but in the mountains. Which suits me fine, because when I was about 10, I got it into my head that I wanted to be a Spice Girl/have a part in East Enders, and decided that I wanted to go to the Sylvia Young theatre school in London. That lasted about a week, then I decided I wanted to be a writer.

There will be auditions, rehearsals, over thirty full-scale productions staged in the camp over the season, parties, movie nights, trips to see Broadway shows and at the end of it all I'll have two weeks to travel America.

Three months away from home, being trusted to look after the stars of tomorrow. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am.
